OUR TEAM
Kristina Kasparian (Owner, Director)
Kristina founded Mōmentum as a blend of her expertise in areas of academia, scientific research, business, communications and health advocacy. More information: Kristina has a PhD in Communication Sciences & Disorders from McGill University (Canada), an M.Sc degree in Clinical Linguistics from three European institutions (Università degli studi di Milano-Bicocca, Universitat Potsdam and Rijksuniversiteit Groningen) and a B.Sc in Psychology from McGill University. Her academic and research expertise is in the field of neurocognition of language and multilingualism - how languages are processed, learned and "forgotten" over one's life-span. She has conducted research on language acquisition in both children and adults, and is knowledgeable about fields of developmental and acquired language disorders. Her research has consistently garnered funding from institutional, national and international sources, and has been awarded several prizes and distinctions. Since obtaining her PhD, Kristina has worked as a consultant and research associate on topics related to language processing and multilingualism. Throughout her academic and research career, Kristina was heavily involved in offering coaching on key skills such as academic writing, how to prepare successful fellowship applications, how to obtain grant funding for research proposals, how to prepare presentations for scientific or general audiences, how to survive the PhD defense, how to improve organization and time-management skills, and how to maintain a work-life balance in academia. These coaching activities developed out of her own natural abilities, passion and willingness to help others thrive. |
Kristina also has extensive experience in creative writing, blogging and social media marketing. During her PhD, Kristina was an official blogger for McGill University, sharing experiences and resources for graduate students. After graduation, she was hired by McGill to revitalize that blog and to create a larger social media community for graduate students. Through this work, Kristina developed handbooks on best practices and offered workshops on social media in a university context.
In 2014, Kristina launched her own travel photography business and online shop Veni Etiam Photography, and learned hands-on about photography, entrepreneurship, marketing and the Canadian art scene. Kristina manages several websites, an Etsy shop, an active blog and highly engaging Instagram and Facebook accounts in English and French. Kristina has a strong sense of brand identity and a knack for creating varied content for a target audience. She keeps updated on useful metrics and ever-changing trends, combining her creative approach with an analytical and goal-oriented strategy. Her passion for creative writing allows her to write compelling blogs and captions for her images.
In running her own business, Kristina became passionate about sharing business and marketing strategies with her peers. She enjoys uplifting other small business owners and motivating them to chase their dreams. Kristina is now one of the leaders of the Collectif Créatif Etsy Montréal, a regional team of entrepreneurs affiliated with the Etsy online marketplace. The Collectif Créatif organizes 5 highly popular art fairs a year in Montreal. Her main roles on the team involve social media marketing, curating the selection of local designers, translation (English and French in both directions), writing and disseminating bilingual press releases, cultivating relationships with sponsors and members, event-planning and event photography. In this capacity, Kristina has become a supportive resource for many creative entrepreneurs in Montreal and Quebec.
Although her scientific training and entrepreneurial activities may seem at odds with each other, Kristina has always had a drive to combine her diverse interests and skills. Incidentally, her passion for travel, writing and languages flourished due to her academic career, while she lived abroad and traveled frequently to international conferences. It's what led her to discover the art of photography, and prompted her to launch her shop during her PhD. Many fundamental skills transfer from academia / science to entrepreneurship, and Kristina finds herself coaching her peers on these skills in either domain.
Outside of science, business and art, Kristina is an active health advocate fighting to raise awareness and research funding for endometriosis and female cancers - two issues that are dear to her heart due to her own personal experience. In 2018, Kristina wrote and self-published the first edition of her book "It's Time.", which details the spectrum of feelings associated with living with these health challenges, particularly endometriosis. Inspired by the women entrepreneurs she met in her community, Kristina founded a health project called Alba - A New Dawn which aims to shine light on endometriosis, cancer and infertility through art, portraits, stories and resources shared by professionals from multiple disciplines. Kristina manages the Alba website and social media platforms, organizes art auctions and awareness events in collaboration with partnering health organizations.
As a person who genuinely enjoys helping others, Kristina's goal with Mōmentum is to help as many people as possible with those small and big steps that stand between them and their goals.
